05 | First team presentation
Objectives
In an ~8-minute-long presentation1 your team will:
- Provide some background on members’ expertise.
- Introduce us to 1 to 3 topics or questions that you would like to examine using AI/ML. These topics can be very broad (e.g., “we would like to explore volcanic activity”) to very specific (e.g., “we are interested in detecting craters on the moon”).
- Tell us why these topics are interesting to you. Then, explain why they are important to others (e.g., scientists, community members, humanity at large).
- Identify several sources of data that may be of use to your team. Provide some basic metadata.
- Produce preliminary characterizations or visualizations of the data.
Evaluation
The instructors will evaluate you on (in order of importance):
- Completeness: Did you fulfill all of the objectives?
- Content quality: Are your (i.) topics/questions, (ii.) data sources, and (iii.) data characterization(s) well-developed and of high quality?
- Presentation: Is your presentation compelling (i.e., both from a narrative and visual standpoint), clear, and concise?
- Timing: Did you follow the time limits?
Deadline
We will hear from each team during class on Friday, January 23.
- Minimum length: 7 minutes. Maximum length: 8 minutes and 30 seconds. ↩
